Questions About Pinterest

Tuesday, August 28, 2018
Do you have or do you know any articles about Pinterest? Do you know anything about this site? Care to share the location of these articles?

But only articles where the writer responds to the comments and questions because aren’t you sick of taking the time and effort to leave a relevant message or question to an article only to receive absolutely no response at all even after waiting for weeks? Looking for anyone who knows, can help, or has info about Pinterest?

pinterest, social media, visual bookmarking site, questions about pinning images, repin

The questions are:

What are you allowed to pin on Pinterest?

If you see an image with a pin it button, does that mean that you’re free to pin the pic or do you have to double-check if it’s copyrighted or whatever? Does everyone on Pinterest do that?

What are you allowed to repin on Pinterest?

If you see an image already pinned on the Pinterest website, are you allowed to repin that pic, assuming the original pinner already did their research and confirmed that the photo was okay to pin or do you have to double-check?

Where should the pinned pic on Pinterest link to?

If you see an image on an article and said pic is either in the public domain or has the creative commons license and you decide to pin that picture, where should the photograph link to? Should the pinned pic link back to the article where you found it or to the place where the article author found the pic (like flickr or Wikimedia Commons)?

Here are some of the comments from this article, back when it used to be posted elsewhere:

BarbRad wrote on December 18, 2014, 2:31 AM:
Many people refuse to pin work or have Pinterest accounts or allow pinning from their sites because they believe Pinterest members don't respect copyrights. Read the Pinterest terms of service and it should answer your questions about that. I know some people don't want their work pinned because they are afraid it will be stolen.

I personally like the site and i'm not afraid of it. It's a great place to pin the photos that appear in your articles. After you pin something, you will have the option of seeing it immediately. if you do that, you can open your pin in edit mode and you'll see the link target. You can change if if necessary. If there is copyright information you want people to see, you can put it into the description of the pin, as well as the link you'd like people to use. Keep in mind, though, that those who repin can change your description or your link when they edit it. Affiliate referrals don't always keep their codes intact.

Thanks for the info. 😃 If I pin an image from an article, like the ones here on Persona Paper, and those images have the creative commons license or are in the public domain, where should the pin link to - the article on Persona Paper where I saw the image or where the image originally came from (for example, Wikimedia Commons, flickr, etc)?

BarbRad replied to FreyaYuki on January 4, 2015, 12:19 AM:
Just use pin-it to pin the photo and it should automatically link back to the article where it appeared. If it doesn't, you can change the link by editing the link. The article will have the photo credit.

FreyaYuki replied to BarbRad on January 4, 2015, 1:20 AM:
Ah, I see. Thanks 😃 I'm really new at this Pinterest stuff.

Ruby3881 wrote on December 18, 2014, 1:54 PM:
I don't see why people are so upset about pinning things on Pinterest, when sharing a link to Google+, Facebook, Tsu, etc. does exactly the same thing. If someone wants to steal work they'll do it, no matter where it's shared, or whether it's not shared at all.

As far as what you can or can't pin, anything that you want to share and that is appropriate can be pinned. Some content may violate the Pinterest terms, but I think most sites have the same rules about that. No p0rn or $exually explicit content, no glorifying drugs, tobacco products, alcohol, gambling, etc., no hate speech, no scams. Otherwise, it's probably safe. Do be careful to follow the rules of the site whose content you want to pin, as well. For example, Bubblews allows users to pin content - but only one pin per post.

The link should be taken care of by Pinterest if you're using their add-on. It automatically links to the page where the image is displayed. If you add a pin manually, that's where you should link too.

Hope that helps!

FreyaYuki replied to Ruby3881 on January 3, 2015, 8:16 AM:
Thank you. This does help. 😃 Just to clarify something though - for example, I see an image in an article here on Persona Paper and that image has the creative commons license or is in the public domain (for example, it could be located on flickr, deviantArt, Wikimedia Commons, etc) and I decide to pin that image manually. Where should that pin link to? Should it link to the article here on Persona Paper or should it link to the site where the image originally came from? Thanks.

Kasman wrote on December 18, 2014, 2:17 PM:
FreyaYuki, BarbRad, Ruby3881 - one of my connections on Pinterest has an interesting and useful guide about images on Pinterest. Go here: https://www.pinterest.com/vallain/pin-disclaimer/

Ruby3881 replied to Kasman on December 19, 2014, 7:05 AM:
I didn't find a guide there, though there was a disclaimer (twice - slightly different wording) and a useful tutorial for finding the original source of an image in a pin. Thanks for sharing! I hadn't found Virginia on Pinterest 😃

FreyaYuki replied to Kasman on January 3, 2015, 5:33 AM:
Thanks for the link. I checked it out but all I saw was what Ruby said below. Still, the tutorial for finding the original source of an image on Pinterest was useful.

Why You Want To Read A Site Or Program's Terms Of Service And Privacy Policy?

Saturday, August 18, 2018
Who else does this? Does what and reads what stuff, you ask? What am I talking about now? Well, I’m referring to reading a website’s terms of service, terms of use, privacy policies, rules, guidelines, FAQs, and all the other information that a site provides or makes available for all of its users or potential users.

All the legalities or the legal stuff filled with legal jargon is really boring and a lot of these are such a chore to read. Seriously, it seems like a lot of the sites or even software and programs seem to really not want anyone, including their customers and consumers or users, to read their terms and policies, especially when you consider how all these can be really complicated and difficult to understand.
terms of service, terms of use, privacy policy, program, website, tos
And I’d really rather not read them, but I still take the time to read them all anyway. Eh, I dunno; it’s just how I am, I guess. I want to know what I'm signing up for, exactly what I’m agreeing to, etc. So I really take the time to explore the website before even going to the registration page.

And it does take time especially if a site decides to be long-winded and have what seems to be pages and pages of terms and rules; it takes even longer if a site is extra boring about these things and decides to use all these complicated legal jargon seemingly at every turn.

What takes me even longer is how I like to take a break because there’s no way I’m reading all this in one sitting (shudder); I don’t even want to think about that. So, what about you? What do you think? Do you do the same?

Here are some of the comments from this article, back when it used to be posted elsewhere:

MegL wrote on August 4, 2014, 4:37 PM:
I read the licence terms before downloading or installing software. I like to know whose life I am signing away!

FreyaYuki replied to MegL on August 5, 2014, 4:10 PM:
Yes, I read those too even if they're really long and boring. One of the worse is how some of those license terms are listed in huge blocks of text, so it's even harder to read.

LoudMan wrote on August 4, 2014, 6:37 PM:
I read it. But then again, I'm nuts. And thank you for this submission to the contest.

FreyaYuki replied to LoudMan on August 5, 2014, 4:20 PM:
You're welcome 😃. I don't think anyone who reads all these terms, policies, rules, etc should be classified as 'nuts'. After all, it is important to know these things so one knows exactly what they're agreeing to, how their information or data will be collected and what it will be used for, etc.

paigea wrote on August 4, 2014, 10:48 PM:
I read all that. Now, do I remember it? That is another question!

FreyaYuki replied to paigea on August 5, 2014, 4:40 PM:
😃 Good question. Since many sites have such long terms and policies, sometimes, it can be hard to remember all of the information. It's too bad these sites just can't make it easier for their users.

BarbRad wrote on August 4, 2014, 11:30 PM:
Yes, I read them. Sometimes they are so scary I'm not sure I should sign up. It seems like most of them say close to the same thing. They all want the right to do whatever they want with your work, but you still have the copyright.

FreyaYuki replied to BarbRad on August 5, 2014, 4:52 PM:
There are some terms and policies that can seem quite daunting with how long they are and how complicated they appear to be since they're all full of legal jargon. I noticed that the part of the terms that end up being mostly the same even for different sites is regarding the disclaimers and liabilities part.

For writing sites, yeah, they do want the right to be able to display your content on their site, but you still retain all the copyrights to it, which is how it should be. I wouldn't want to write for a site that would acquire the copyrights to your articles unless they actually paid you upfront for it.

What Do You Think About All The New Changes To Bubblews?

Wednesday, August 8, 2018
This was originally published on Persona Paper on October 16, 2014, 4:04 AM as a poll-type article.

If you write or post articles on Bubblews, you must have heard the news about all the new changes on that site. I only heard about it recently as I haven't always been able to log on there (been busy lately, which was why I haven't been able to log in here on Persona Paper either).
persona paper, writing sites, bubblews, reviews, poll, articles, writing, changes, news, updates
What do you think or what can you say about all these new changes in Bubblews? Do you like these changes? What are your opinions and thoughts on this?

Some of the changes include:

  • Increasing the time it takes for people to get their payments - for those in the UK, USA and Canada, it can take up to 30-35 days before they can get their redemptions while everyone else (the rest of the world / international Bubblews members) will have to wait for up to 60-90 days before they can get their redemptions.
  • Removal of the views counter - people can no longer see how many views each of their posts have gotten. They also can't see how many views the articles of other people have received.
  • Changes in the Bubblews Bank Page - you can now see a history of your past redemptions. There's also a form you can submit if you are missing some redemptions. Also, apparently, you can now only redeem once every 30 days.

The following are the choices for the poll:

  • I love the new Bubblews changes. It's super special awesome.
  • I hate the new Bubblews changes. Why did they have to change things?
  • The only thing I love is being able to see a history of our past redemptions and having a form we can use in case we're missing some payments.
  • I hate not being able to redeem whenever I reach the payment threshold. Why do I have to wait?
  • I hate how we have to wait so long before we can receive our payments.
  • I want the views counter back. Why was it taken away? Give it back, pretty please.
  • Bublews is really improving and changing for the better. I love everything about it.
  • I'm neutral about this. I've no opinions to share since I neither like nor dislike any of these Bubblews changes.
  • Other. My thoughts and opinions aren't listed in this poll.
  • I love the changes to the Bubblews bank page. I don't care about the rest of the changes.
  • I don't mind waiting for my redemptions as long as they will eventually arrive, so I don't care that Bubblews increased the waiting time again. I still love this site.
  • My only problem with the changes is how I can't redeem whenever I want to. I don't care if I have to wait a long time before my payments arrive, but I want to be able to redeem every time I reach the payment threshold.
  • I have no use for the views counter, so I don't mind that it's gone. Bubblews must have a good reason for removing this.
  • I think everyone should have the same waiting time for redemptions regardless of where they're currently located.
  • I love how Bubblews is really doing their best to address the redemption concerns and issues and how they're all working hard to pay all the non-rule breakers.
  • There is no problem at all. These changes are awesome. I now spend even more time on Bubblews thanks to the new site improvements.
  • I don't like having to type a captcha every time I want to submit a relevant and non-spammy comment.
  • I love how Bubblews is trying to thwart the spammers and rule-breakers by adding the comment captcha feature.

I think I voted too soon. I only saw the answers in the top screen. What I hate most is how they don't tell us what they will do before they do it. When we complained about not being able to fix our truncated posts the update messed up, they gave us no hope that we'd be able to fix them or that they would restore what is lost.

Some of us fixed as many as possible before they cut off being able to edit old post so they would make sense again. Now I hear that they added back all the text they took out, even duplicating anything we might have done to fix them, so that once again, they know better than we do how our posts should look. They just can't see that we know best how to care for our work, but now they think they've addressed the issue when they really haven't.

Does This Happen To You When You Try To Access Bubblews?

Wednesday, August 1, 2018
What happens when you go to bubblews.com? Do you have to type or enter a captcha before you can access the website? I don't know, and I'm not sure what's going on, but when I try to go to the Bubblews site, I see this page where I'm being asked to type in a captcha before I can go to the site itself.
bubblews, informational articles, writing site, reviews, captcha, security check
The text at the top of the page says "please complete the security check to access Bubblews.com". The captcha is below that alongside the textbox where you're supposed to type the word. There's more text below that and to the side. After typing the captcha, I get taken to the Bubblews homepage, so I can log on to the site.

I noticed that this also happens when I try to access a Bubblews article even though I'm not logged in. I get taken to this captcha page, and I don't get why this is happening? Is anyone else experiencing this? This is the first time this happened to me, so I don't know exactly what's going on. Does anyone have any ideas? What could this mean?

paigea wrote on October 2, 2014, 9:46 AM:
Best to ask that question once you are on Bubblews I think. More people there to answer. I have no idea why that's happening to you.

FreyaYuki replied to paigea on October 16, 2014, 4:57 AM:
Yes, I posted about this there as well. But I thought I'd ask here too since there are many Persona Paper members who are also members of Bubblews.

Kasman wrote on October 2, 2014, 10:16 AM:
It isn't happening to me. I get on OK by entering my username and password just as I have always done. The only time I meet a captcha is when I comment on a post.

FreyaYuki replied to Kasman on October 16, 2014, 4:57 AM:
Ah, I see. It's good that you're not experiencing this. I also have to type a captcha every time I want to comment on an article.

nbaquero wrote on October 2, 2014, 11:24 AM:
FreyaYuki I think this is a measure they are implementing to discourage spammers and/or plagiarists. It has not happened to me though.

FreyaYuki replied to nbaquero on October 16, 2014, 4:58 AM:
Oh. I see. It's good that this hasn't happened to you. I've read somewhere that many are also experiencing this.

LeaPea2417 wrote on October 2, 2014, 11:36 AM:
I have not had that happen to me. I noticed yesterday the site was under maintenance practically the whole day.

FreyaYuki replied to LeaPea2417 on October 16, 2014, 5:03 AM:
It's good that this hasn't happened to you. I didn't know about the site being under maintenance for the whole day. I've been busy, so I haven't been able to log in there daily.

BarbRad wrote on October 2, 2014, 1:46 PM:
It did not happen to me yet, but my friend sandyspider was talking in a Facebook group yesterday about some sort of alternate Bubblews URL she was landing on. One of the B team responded on a post she wrote about it, but I haven't had time to track down the post . Maybe the problem you are having is related somehow.

FreyaYuki replied to BarbRad on October 16, 2014, 5:06 AM:
It's good that you're not experiencing this. I haven't heard about this "alternative Bubblews URL" thing yet. It does sound odd and strange. I'll see if I can find the article you mentioned.

Randajad_The_Traveller wrote on October 11, 2014, 11:08 AM:
They do that because many Asian members are cheating the site. It sucks because non cheating Asian members experiences the same thing.

FreyaYuki replied to Randajad_The_Traveller on October 16, 2014, 5:16 AM:
Ah, I think I heard about that too. It's quite unfortunate because not everyone is a spammer and not everyone breaks the rules. There are many who are honest members and who do their best to follow the rules regardless of where they're currently located.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on October 12, 2014, 1:18 AM:
I've heard it mentioned, but it's never happened to me. I stay logged in, so most of the time I only need to re-log in is when I clear my cookies.

FreyaYuki replied to OldRoadsOnceTraveled on October 16, 2014, 5:17 AM:
Yeah, I've since learned that many are also experiencing this. It's good that this hasn't happened to you. I don't stay logged on all the time, so I always have to log in again to get to the site.
